I tend to have a routine and the days for training. My rest days are strictly for rest and nothing else, meaning not playing any ball or exercising. It's better to get a routine and stick t o it.

There really isn't a best way to bench press. You have to do what works for you. I personally prefer barbell benches over dumb bell benches. I do mix the two though and get great results.

For me it's hard working out hungry. I'll drink a protein shake or ensure drink about an hour before. Or just eat a light snack. Working out on an empty stomach, you wont have much energy.
