Default Re: Working from Home

I work from home.

Cons:

The only 'cons' for me are family/friends who impinge on work time...

Don't get me wrong, I'm a family-oriented person.

However, family (et. al.) make working at home difficult... cus what you're doing appears to be far too casual to be work.

My family, my daddy aside, sees me sitting on the internet for 8+ hours per day... and in and out of the gym for about the same number of hours.

Both activities seem casual... because both are, ordinarily, what working people do for recreation.

My father is different, in that he also has a job catering to recreation... so he understands, and doesn't impinge AT ALL.

Some might say that not interacting with other people (i.e. work mates), as an office setting would allow, would be a con... but it isn't for me.

Some people thrive on having a bunch of people around them distracting 'em from their work... so the work day seems to pass faster.

Personally, I think that applies to people who go to work simply to collect a paycheque.

I LOVE what I do.

When I tap the NarkZone, there isn't anything i need around me other than silence and coffee.

Some might say that working at home brings the stress of the job into your house. They say that like it's unavoidable or something

The pros?

Reduced overheads, reduced likelihood of missed meals, the ease of getting to work (lol... Wake up, and you're at work already lol).

I like to work in strict atmospheres for dedicated purposes. I just like being at home for peace, quiet and relaxing, sex too. I could never have a home gym nor work from home. I like certain things of my life segragated.

I segregate the two... I simply do it in a solitary location.

My M.O. is that there is a time for everything... a building, imo, is no more important than the significance allocated to it.

Between 9-5 (or whatever my hours are), my bedroom/study etc. are my office. My kitchen? My lunch room.

After hours?

Bedroom = den of sin.

It was similar when I ran my own bar.

On duty, it was a serious place for me... From the time i clocked out it was recreation.

It was the same location, the same people... but the significance allocated was different.

I would probably be lazy as hell if working from home I suspect. Id like to try it if I ever get the oppertunity, sometimes now I do work from home though if I have to prepp a presentation or write a report or something like that. When I was finishing my masters thesis work I was working excluisvely from home running all the calcs on my home computer since it was faster than the crap cluster the research group had. Then it worked fine.

If the job is something thats done to 99% on a computer I think its nice, Id miss the interaction with co workers though because I enjoy being around and talking about intersting problems with intelligent people.

I can work from home in the evenings and weekends, etc., but I agree with Prada. I need a dedicated space to excel at my job. Basically, when I'm at work, I'm pretty much an asshole to everyone I deal with outside of my office. I'm a trial attorney so i pretty much have to be. When I'm outside of the office, I'm a pretty laid back and happy go lucky guy. If I was that way at work, I would get steamrolled and would be out of a job pretty quickly.

I can function in either situation... as a student i work from home... I just have to plan to do the work.... I have a home gym thing... same with that... just about planning what i'm doing when. For example, when i'm doing work i switch users of my laptop to the "work" user...which has limited distractions...

I hate 9-5, stuffy offices, but i like the interaction in the workplace because it's fun to see how ppl work and interact and behave... (sorry i'm a psychologist)...

also... when i work from home i don't have to worry about what i'm going to wear...

I have a mini office at home. Its my personal space where noone comes (unless they want the ironing board)

I love the "boxers element" where i can sit in my boxers and conduct business

Once im comfortable, my productivity goes through the roof.
