Default What MMA would suit me best?

I'm thinking about starting some martial art this fall. I don't have any goal of becoming super good at it, I just love that kind of training. I used to wrestle in high school and I loved it.

What my goals are with it is that it should be great conditioning training and it should teach skills that are actually useful in a real life situation.

I'm leaning towards Shootfighting, BJJ or Krav Maga. Seems like Krav Maga is extremely oriented towards self defense though so its not as much conditioning etc?

Sounds nice, how long have you been training it? How easy is it to pick up the basic of it? I will probably train it twice a week and I have some background in grappling since I did greco roman wrestling for about 2.5-3 years.

Is there any punching in BJJ or pure grappling?

Don't have time for doing 2 different things Mostly looking for whats most complete. I.e has ground work, kicking, punching etc. Thats why I'm considering shootfighting since its a combination of everything. BJJ looks very nice though.

i wouldn't do BJJ for self defense, being on the ground in a street fight is a great way to invite your opponents friends to kick you in the head.

muay thai for self defense imo, they're all fantastic for conditioning and very hard work

If you want to do something that's great for conditioning and involves kicking and punching, then I would do shootfighting as you suggested. Pure MMA training incorporates all of these aspects and the cardio is intense. I don't know what people are talking about BJJ isn't good for self defense, as 95% of fights end up on the ground anyway. If it was me, I would end it quick on the ground with my opponent, then if his friend was kicking me in the head, trust me, he would end up in a knee bar. I currently do Judo and BJJ. The judo for the takedowns and bjj for the ground fighting. Later I will incorporate a little Muai Thai though. But if you want something well rounded, I would just do MMA training, or shootfighting like you mentioned.

I used to do JKD, Kali and Muay Thai and they were awesome.

Shootfighting looks like pure win tho!

I would love to do BJJ.

I'm glad Jo started the topic.

As someone with a shitload of injuries, I'm curious what approach would be best for me.

What would be more efficient?
