Default Putting together a home gym??

Ok... Let's say you have a budget of $1000

Can you put together a functional an decent (bodybuilding/strongman friendly) home gym for that price?

Let's here some ideas... Website w/ prices etc. would be nice as well :)

^^^ I got all the same shit except I got the boflex supreme or whatever. I like it. I have not pumped straight iron for a few years now. Im not as big as I used to be, but I have a good core strength from the boflex. That alone was 1300.

I think, given some limits, I could make $1000 go a long way if I had to.

Limitations:

No heavy barbell benching
No heavy partial DL or squats
No fancy cardio equipment. These boots are made for walking...

Now for some ideas:

Big tire. Learn to flip it. Cost: $0.

Sledgehammer. Learn to hit the big tire with it. Cost: $40.

Set of bands from IronWoody.Com. Splurge, and get a big set. Cost: $200.

Used car tires, 2: $0

Find somebody who can weld and cut some metal for you. Assume you have no friends with this skill. $100

Pipe at home depot, enough to make a fat barbell and a pair of dumbbell handles: $50. Get some big washers to weld on as stops, cost included.

Call it $400.00 spent.

NExt step: finding weights.

OK, so I've spent $400 so far.

Now...to find plates. If you go to any of the mass-market sporting goods stores, like Dicks, you'll find what appear to be good deals on plates. This should be a last resort; the plates and bars at such mass-market stores are typically low quality. For example, Dicks is currently selling Cap plates. These are made of pressed, powdered steel, and crack very easily. Drop 'em a couple times, and you'll be replacing them. Additionally, these plates are notoriously inaccurate in terms of weight.

Better to find a commercial equipment supplier in your area. Basically, go into the local gyms, and ask where they buy their equipment. In a given region, you'll typically find a couple suppliers. Visit them and talk, and ask for help. You should be able to find a commercial-level Olypmic bar and 255lbs of plates for about $200.00 at such a place. While you're there, let them know you'd be interested in used equipment; when the big gyms buy new, they trade-in, and you can get great deals.

So, let's say we've spent $600.00 so far.

Toss on another $200.00 for a decent quality adjustable incline bench, maybe from Body Solid or Tuff-Stuff.

That brings us to $800, and we've assembled a pretty good selection of equipment.

The car tires can be used as a sled for dragging, as well as bumpers to catch your weights when you drop them after a set.

With $200 left, we can set up a little bit of a good lifting environment. Go over to IronMind's site, and dig up the article on how to build a lifting platform. Add in some stall mats from Tractor Supply Corporation or Farm & Fleet, and you have padding for your cell. All this will add to up to about $100, maybe a little more.

With any remaining change, you can start shopping Craigslist for a couple more items: kegs can be had for typically $20-30 each. Remove the tapping insert, fill them with sand or concrete, and you have a nice pressing / loading object.

A heavy-duty duffel bag filled with sand, and wrapped in duct tape for extra strength, can round out your selection of gear.

After I made the decision of working out, my parents helped me putting a home gym. They bought a bench with butterfly and leg piece, I bought barbells, plates and dumbells. The whole package wasn't really expensive ... but it didn't last long either. That's when I decided to join a gym
