Default Marathon fitness

so i did a 26 mile hike today, and its possible that i may have died somewhere on route home.

But seriously, i came 1st in my section in just under 8 hrs

my mental resolve is always solid, but my physical preparation could have been better.

It was my first time so i didnt know what to expect, but id like to know foodwise, what should i eat before, during and after the hike

My goal was to finish without collapsing. Lol. I used it to burn calories. Finishing was a plus too.




I woke up and consumed a protein shake some souse and Emergen-C

Every hour on the hour, on the hike from hour two, i consumed fruit (mostly apples) water, emergen-c (at hour 6), and a powerade at hour seven (as i ran out of supplies and had to buy it)

i had a protein shake for the trail but never used it.

Souse was probably a bad idea.

Also, if you were using it to burn fat, piling in all those carbs was probably a bad idea as well.

Honestly, once you top up glycogen the day prior, there is absolute no need to stuff yourself to make it through a hike man.
