I find it difficult to function properly when I don't get enough sleep. Not getting ample sleep on a continuous basis can really affect your health. Not only does it affect your cognitive ability, but your eating habits and weight will also be affected. You can actually lose weight by getting the correct amount of sleep.

Do high-performing individuals live long though?

When I was a teenearger I used to sleep 8+ hours a day and I remember to have always felt lethargic.

Then later in my early youth days I used to sleep 4 hours a day and yet feeling great!

Actually it's hard for me to sleep less than 5-6 hours in average every night, but sometimes need around 8 hours to feel fully recovered after a hard working day.

The body does adapt to less sleep but I don't think that's all the good. I myself don't like doing naps I'd rather battle through until I can get a proper night sleep. Taking a sleeping aid may help in the night time and then maybe a jog or something in the morning to get the blood pumping ready for the day.

That was so bad when I had to deal with it. It was for 9-10 months straight that I had to deal with that and I finally got to a point that I couldn't take it anymore. I was so exhausted and broke down. But there are brighter days ahead. They will eventually start sleeping through the night.

I definitely see how my body reacts negatively to less sleep. On the days that I am up all night, I practically live off caffeine the following day. I also found that eating a lot of vegetables and fruits make me feel better then eating bread and carbs. If possible I'll try to close my eyes for about 10 minutes around 2pm (when I am starting to crash). I always make sure I can go to bed early the next day other wise I am not productive at all.

I have a hard time getting to sleep and then staying to sleep. I usually only sleep an hour or two at a time. It gets frustrating when you have to get up the next morning for work. Usually by the time the alarm goes off I am ready to sleep. It is draining after awhile. Sometimes on the weekend I will take an over the counter sleep aid and they work wonderful. The weekends are usually when I get caught up on the sleep that I didn't get all week.
